EEG – electroencephalography
Measurement + recording of the brain's electrical activity
The EEG examination is a painless test that measures the electrical activity of your brain. No preparation is required, and you remain comfortably seated during the examination. Electrodes placed on your scalp record your brain waves. This helps us to detect possible neurological disorders such as epilepsy or sleep disorders. The results are crucial for an accurate diagnosis and the development of an individual treatment plan.
ENMG – electroneuromyography
Measurement of nerve conduction + muscle activity
ENG and EMG examinations are procedures for assessing the health of nerves and muscles. Using electrodes and fine needles, we measure the electrical activity in your muscles and nerves. These tests help to diagnose problems such as neuropathies – for example, entrapment of nerves – or muscle disorders – for example, inflammation.
EP – evoked potentials
Measurement of nerve pathways (vision, sensation + movement)
The examination of evoked potentials (EP) is a diagnostic procedure that helps us to diagnose various neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, neuropathies or spinal cord injuries and to assess the course of your treatment. There are different types of EP, including somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP), motor evoked potentials (MEP) and visual evoked potentials (VEP).
For SEP, electrodes are placed on the skin to measure the response of your nerves to stimuli. MEP, on the other hand, measure the electrical activity of your muscles in response to stimulation. VEP examine the electrical responses of your optic nerves to visual stimuli.
Lumbar puncture
Collection of cerebrospinal fluid from the spinal canal
The lumbar puncture, also known as a spinal tap or cerebrospinal fluid collection, is a diagnostic procedure in which a small amount of your cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is collected. This test helps us to obtain information about the condition of your nervous system.
During the examination, you lie on your side or sit on the examination couch, and an experienced neurologist inserts a thin needle between two vertebrae in the lower back to collect CSF. This procedure usually takes only a few minutes.
The lumbar puncture can contribute to the diagnosis of various neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, meningitis or nerve inflammation. Your safety and wellbeing are our top priority, and we make sure that you feel comfortable and well cared for during the procedure.
Neuromuscular ultrasound
Imaging of nerves and muscles
Neuromuscular ultrasound is a diagnostic imaging technique used in neurology to assess the muscles, nerves and soft tissues in the body. This method enables neurologists to detect structural changes or abnormalities of nerves and muscles.
During the examination, an ultrasound device is used to send high-frequency sound waves through the skin into the body. These sound waves are reflected by the tissues in the body and converted into real-time images by a computer. This allows the physician to visualise the muscles, nerves and tendons and to look for signs of injuries, inflammation, tumours or other abnormalities.
Neuromuscular ultrasound is particularly useful for assessing nerve compression syndromes such as carpal tunnel syndrome, examining muscle wasting or muscle disorders such as muscular dystrophy, and diagnosing nerve inflammation.
This examination method is painless and usually requires no special preparation. It allows the neuromuscular system to be assessed and helps neurologists to make accurate diagnoses and develop individual treatment plans.

Berner Neurologie offers an infusion clinic for patients with headaches, multiple sclerosis (MS) and nerve and muscle inflammation (e.g. chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy / CIDP). CGRP inhibitors for migraine, ocrelizumab for multiple sclerosis and intravenous immunoglobulins for CIDP are part of the range of treatments. Our infusion clinic is a protected space where you can feel safe and comfortable during your therapy.
